Kids Hop, Hoop and Loop to Raise Money for School

Eagle Creek Academy PTA hosted the annual Hops, Hoops and Loops fundraiser Friday.

students were having a blast Friday afternoon during their Hops, Hoops and Loops event where they could jumprope, hula-hoop, shoot basketballs, ride their bike or scooter for a half-hour toward the end of the school day.

The event took place in the school's parking lot and was put on by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Dozens of parents came to watch as their children sped around the parking lot and hopped over cones.

"It’s a fun celebration for parents and the students," said Heather Scheele, president of the PTA.

The school's PTA holds the event annually to raise funds for a variety of school-related needs. This year the goal is to raise $5,000 to purchase technologies for the classrooms. Pledges for participants and donations are still being accepted through much of October.

"This is pretty exciting," Oakland Township resident and parent Pamela Santangelo said. "It's great with the kids being able to get some time with friends, in a safe environment and have fun."

Santangelo has two children at Eagle Creek Academy: Emily is in first grade and Matthew is in third. Matthew took the event as a challenge and rode his bike the entire 30 minutes. He counted his laps and ended up doing 50.

"He's always up for a challenge," Santangelo said.
