Lake Orion Cheer Team Qualifies for State Meet
Lake Orion High School's cheer team placed fourth at Saturday's regional cheer championship.
Saturday's regional cheer meet took place in Dragon Country (at Lake Orion High School), drawing a large crowd of fans to support the cheer team.
Fans chanted loudly as the girls performed the routines they had been working on all season long. The girls competed against 11 other teams and needed to place in the top four to advance to the state cheer finals in Grand Rapids on Friday. After three rounds the Dragons earned 808.03 points putting them in fourth place and qualifying them for the state meet.
"Our team did really great in the first round; we came out very strong," Nicole Perryman, co-coach of the Lake Orion cheer team."It was nerveracking going into the third round because the scores were so close."

Perryman also noted that in spite of the minor penalty her team received for stepping off of the mat, they did good and are looking forward to states.
"There were a lot of hard teams here today and we are very lucky to be able to go to states," Lake Orion cheerleader Olivia Andersson said. "We believe in our team."

"I'm really excited ... We're going to do great at states!" Lake Orion cheerleader Brittany Garoufalis said.
Stoney Creek, Southgate Anderson and Rochester High School placed first, second and third respectively and will also be competing in Grand Rapids on Friday.
