Lake Orion High School Celebrates 2012 Graduates
Graduating seniors received their diplomas at DTE Energy Music Theatre Tuesday evening.
Hundreds of seniors draped in green and white gowns flooded DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston Tuesday night, anxiously awaiting their diplomas.
During the commencement ceremony Lake Orion Board of Education members Mary Jo Burchart and Birgit McQuiston, along with Lake Orion Community Schools Superintendent Marion Ginopolis and Lake Orion High School Interim Principal Tom Tobe, addressed the crowd.
Ginopolis urged students to look forward, not back, saying that they were not graduating "from" something, but rather "to" something. She quoted hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, who, when asked how he achieved his great success, said, "I don't skate where the puck has been. I skate where it's going to be."

In his address to his peers, Connor Sweeney, senior class president, was emphatic that success in life is due to much more than good fortune, and encouraged his fellow classmates to strive for excellence as they moved forward in life. He said, "Success is not luck. It's a choice. It's an active decision to be great."
Performances by the Lake Orion High School Band, the Symphonic Band and Chamber Choir and Chorale made the evening festive for students and their guests.
