Lake Orion Student Crowned ‘Little Miss Pride of the Peninsulas’

Emily Penrose will advance to competition for the Little Miss Michigan title in November.

Emily Penrose, 11, is wearing the “Little Miss Pride of the Peninsulas” crown after she and two dozen other girls competed for scholarship money and prizes in the Miss America Organization-sanctioned pageant Saturday.

Emily is a student at Scripps Middle School in Lake Orion.

Style, service, scholarship and success are the cornerstone of the Miss America Organization, according to a press release. Contestants were judged in a private panel interview, talent competition, modeling and formal wear.

In the talent competition, Emily performed an energetic baton twirling routine. She was awarded a $250 prize and will compete for the state title at the Little Miss Michigan pageant in November.

Both  Little Miss Pride of the Peninsulas and Little Miss Michigan are official “little sister” affiliates of the Miss America Scholarship organization.

Also at the pageant, Sarah Suydam of Saint Clair Shores was crowned “Miss Pride of the Peninsulas.”
