Literacy Day Proves Fun for Middle and Elementary School Students
Oakview Middle School helped elementary school students with writing and reading on Friday.
eighth-grade students spent two hours on Friday reading and writing with area elementary school students.
This is the eighth year in a row that Oakview eighth-graders have participated in Literacy Day by helping younger students with reading and writing activities. The students were spread out across the district with eighth-grade students in classrooms at , , and elementary schools.
Oakview teachers Caroline Thompson and Kevin Kast were onsite at Stadium Drive Elementary School with their students on Friday.

“I think it’s an awesome event that the eighth-graders really look forward to,” Kast said. “They did a lot of work to prepare for doing this.”
Kast also said that his students were greeted with lots of smiles and enthusiasm from the kindergarteners.

“I think it’s a very beneficial experience for both the kindergarten and eighth grade students,” Melanie Koehn, kindergarten teacher at Stadium Drive, said.
Kast and Thompson noted that students worked hard in advance to prepare to read to students and engage younger students in writing assignments.
