Meatless Mondays: Inn Season Cafe

Royal Oak is not too far down the road from us and neither is  Inn Season Cafe, but It really doesn't matter what part of the year it is because this restaurant is always "in season."

Located on Fourth Street in downtown Royal Oak, don't let Inn Season's tiny interior mislead you. The cozy restaurant has limited seating, but its intimate setting prepares you for a romantically delicious meal

I went for the first time last year on my 21st birthday for lunch! I don't drink alcohol, so a vegetarian/vegan restaurant was my version of a legal-age celebration!

Who says you can't eat dessert first? And on that note, who says we can't talk about dessert first? Save room for dessert - trust me (see above photo). I got the carrot cake and it was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. Again, you'll have to take my word for until you experience it yourself. If carrots in a dessert aren't your thing, then you might like their opera cake or banana cream pie.

Their menu denotes soy-free and gluten-free options as well. The menu offers Mexican, stir fries, salads, "burgers," pizza, soup and other specialities. Be warned - they do not have french fries. Technically, french fries are vegan/vegetarian depending on what oil is used, but they are a far cry from a health food. (But that doesn't keep me from enjoying them!)

The talk about Inn Season is that carnivores and vegetarians alike love Inn Season Cafe. Just make sure that your carnivorous friends are willing to try something they may never have heard of before. For example, this past New Years, I went to New York City with my mom and sister. I planned ahead to go to a vegan restaurant called Zen Palate. My mom is a vegan and my sister is a convenient vegetarian (meaning she only claims to be a vegetarian to get herself out of eating  mysterious meat dishes at dinner parties). My sister was moaning all the way up the block and into the restaurant, refusing to order anything because it all sounded disgusting. Lo and behold, once our food came out (Thai fried rice served in half a pineapple no less!), she changed her tune and gobbled it right up!

Inn Season has been in business for more than 30 years, so they're doing something right- and remember to save room for dessert! When you do go, be sure to tell me what you got and how it was!
