Oakland County HS Student Brings Loaded BB Gun To Class: Sheriff

LAKE ORION, MI — A Lake Orion High School student was arrested Friday after bringing a loaded BB gun to class, according to sheriff's officials.

The incident happened at 8:24 a.m. when school officials learned of a possible handgun on campus, officials said.

Officers quickly identified the classroom where the student was located. They removed the 17-year-old girl and secured her backpack.

Inside the backpack officers found a loaded .177-caliber revolver-style BB gun, officials said.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the BB gun closely resembles an actual handgun.

The student, of Pontiac, was taken to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Orion Township Substation.

Officials said she was later placed at the Oakland County Children’s Village after a juvenile court referee authorized her to stay there.

Police are seeking charges for possession of a pneumatic gun in a weapon-free school zone and carrying a pneumatic gun with intent to use it unlawfully against another person.

"This incident reaffirms our strong belief that any
information about a potential threat at school must receive immediate attention from both school and law enforcement officials so we can step in quickly," Bouchard said. "Thankfully, this scary situation was resolved safely and without further incident."
