Poll of the Week: What Grade Do You Think Michigan's Education System Deserves?

This was one of the questions asked at The Future of Education Community Conversation on Tuesday in Orion Township.

held at on Tuesday drew a lot of thoughtful discussion.

Attendees were given clickers and asked to respond to a variety of questions with multiple options per question. Those in attendance were asked what letter grade they think the statewide public education system deserves, and now we want your opinion. Respond to our poll and tell us why you graded the system that way in the comments.

At the forum on Tuesday 57 percent of attendees said they would give Michigan's public education system a "B" and 38 percent responded "C," with 6 percent saying they would give it an "A."

Courtney Thompson outreach director for The Center for Michigan, who was presenting at the event, also asked community members what letter grade they thought Lake Orion Community Schools deserved. Attendees were more generous with the grading of Lake Orion's district: Fifty percent gave it an "A," 45 percent a "B" and 5 percent a "D."

The center has been leading conversations on education throughout the state. Michigan Citizens Advocating for Public Education (MI-CAPE) and Lake Orion Community Schools Involved Citizens (LOCSIC) also partnered to put on the event.
