1 Shot, Injured In I-94 Shooting In Wayne County: Police

The 17-year-old​ boy took himself to a nearby hospital​, where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

ROMULUS, MI — A teen was injured in a Monday night shooting on Interstate 94 in Wayne County, according to Michigan State Police.

Police said a 17-year-old boy was driving a stolen Kia in the westbound lanes on the freeway near Wayne Road at 8:45 p.m. when a dark-colored vehicle sped up next to him and someone fired multiple shots at the Kia.

The 17-year-old boy was struck by the shots and drove the Kia off the road, police said.

The 17-year-old boy took himself to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, police said.

A young girl was also in the Kia at the time of the shooting, but was not injured in the incident, police said.

Another vehicle that was driving on the freeway was also struck by a round, but the driver wasn't hit by any shots, police said.

Investigators determined that vehicle was not targeted in the shooting, police said.

The 17-year-old boy driving the Kia got onto Interstate 94 from Middlebelt Road and he and the young girl left Inkster, police said.

Both the driver and young girl were turned over to their parents, as police continue investigating the shooting.
