10 Most Dangerous Intersections in Plymouth and Canton

Does it surprise you that the intersection of Ford and Haggerty roads sees the most car accidents between Plymouth and Canton each year? 

Here are the 10 intersections in Plymouth and Canton with the highest number of accidents in the past five years, according to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG). The data shows most of the area's accidents happen along Ford Road surrounding Interstate 275. The intersection of Ford and Haggerty roads has an average of 67 accidents over the past fives years, according to the report.

Ford Road's intersections at Lilley, Canton Center and Sheldon roads also have high volumes of accidents per year, the report indicated.

Intersections are ranked by the number of reported crashes, which does not take into account traffic volume. Crashes reported occurred within 150 feet of the intersection.

The number of car crashes in Plymouth saw a minor spike in 2011 (984 accidents) from 2010 (885), but accident trends have overall declined over the past decade, the report indicated. In 2002, 1,254 accidents were reported in Plymouth.

In Canton, accident numbers have remained relatively steady over the past decade. SEMCOG reported 1,835 accidents in the township in 2011, up from 1,787 in 2010, but a slight decrease from a decade before, when 1,922 crashes were reported in 2002. Canton's accident numbers peaked in 2005, when 2,149 crashes were reported.
