25 Animals Rescued in Vicious Dog-Fighting Raids

Police also arrested five people and seized $25,000 in dog-fighting proceeds, narcotics and dog-fighting equipment.

Michigan State Police broke up a vicious dog-fighting ring Thursday, rescuing 25 dogs and arresting five people in a pair of raids in dog-fighting ring Thursday in a pair of raids at homes in Inkster and Westland.

Police received several tips about the illegal dog fighting ring in the two Wayne County communities, according to media reports, including WWJ.

During the raids, conducted by Michigan State Police troopers and officers from a mobile narcotics team, authorities seized $25,000 in cash, dog-fighting equipment and narcotics, including crack cocaine, heroin and marijuana.

Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw told the radio station that dog fighting remains a problem, “especially in the Metro Detroit area.”

The five suspects — four at the residence in Inkster and the other at the Westland home — are being interviewed by detectives.

“Naturally, if there’s other people or other parties involved, we definitely want to know about that,” Shaw told WWJ.

The dogs are being cared for by the Michigan Humane Society. All were in good condition, The Detroit News reported.
