Canton Faces Staggering Legacy Costs

Township faces $74 million in long-term health care costs for employees and retirees.

If a recent audit released July 3 is any indication, Canton could face about $74 million in long-term health care costs for employees and retirees, according to a report by the Canton Observer.

The figure, the report said, marks a sharp increase over a $53 million projection in 2008.

Township Trustee Pat Williams told the Observer the number, provided to the board July 3 by auditing firm Plante Moran, was "scary."
