Canton Gunman Arrested After 17-Hour Standoff With Officers: Police
The gunman barricaded himself inside a Canton home after a he fired the gun following domestic violence incident, according to police.
CANTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A Canton Township man was arrested in connection with a domestic violence incident that led to a 17-hour standoff with police Wednesday, according to police.
Officers were sent to a home on N. Annapolis Circle (near Haggerty and Van Born Roads) where a man had barricaded himself inside after a domestic violence incident, according to police.
Investigators determined that a felony assault occurred at the home, and that the man had fired the weapon outside the home, according to police.

Police did not say if anyone was struck by the gunfire or if there were any injuries.
When officers arrived at the scene, they set up a perimeter around the home where the man had barricaded himself inside alone, according to police.

Officials then began negotiating with the man and "worked to ensure the safety of all involved, including the victim of the assault, the community, and the individual inside the home," according to police.
The talks continued through Wednesday and into Thursday, according to police.
After roughly 17 hours of talks, the man agreed to speak with negotiators and was arrested without incident by officers outside the home, according to police.
The man, who was not identified, was placed in jail and facing charges in connection with the incident. Police did not immediately say what those charges were.
"The successful resolution of this incident without any injuries is a direct result of the professionalism, training, and restraint shown by our team," Canton Police Chief Chad Baugh said. "We are committed to the safety of everyone in our community, including those we take into custody."
Police were still investigating the incident and will turn over their findings to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office. More details were expected at a later time.
