Canton Man Causes Crash, Runs Into Woods And Calls For Uber: Sheriff
A 35-year-old Canton man is facing charges after causing a crash while driving drunk and trying to escape police in an Uber, officials said.
BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A Canton man is facing charges after causing a Wednesday crash in Brighton Township while driving drunk and trying to escape police by calling an Uber, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a two-car crash at 2:30 p.m. in the area of Kensington and Stobart roads, according to the sheriff's office.
Witnesses told deputies the man who caused the crash ran away into a nearby wooded area, according to the sheriff's office. No injuries were reported in the crash.

Deputies searched the wooded area with a drone and quickly found the suspected driver hiding behind a trailer between two buildings, according to the sheriff's office.
As deputies were on their way to the wooded area, a black SUV pulled up and the suspected driver got into the SUV, according to the sheriff's office.

Shortly after the SUV pulled onto Kensington Road, a deputy stopped the SUV, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies arrested the suspected driver in connection to the crash without incident, according to the sheriff's office.
"Here's a crazy detail for you... the driver of the vehicle who picked up the suspect was working for Uber and had no idea of what had happened, he was just picking up a route!" the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post.
The suspected driver, a 35-year-old Canton man, was charged with operating while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license and failing to stop and identify at the scene of a crash. He was placed in the Livingston County Jail. Officials did not release his name.
