Canton resident L.G. Almeda to serve as panelist at Asian Pacific American career event on Oct. 14

The OCA-Detroit B3 Leadership Summit will discuss "Crossing Cultural Barriers to Achieve Career Success"

Lawrence G. Almeda--a shareholder in the Ann Arbor office of intellectual property law firm Brinks Gilson & Lione and owner of the Plymouth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in downtown Plymouth--will serve as a panelist at the OCA-Detroit B3 Leadership Summit on Oct. 14 in Madison Heights. The event theme is Crossing Cultural Barriers to Achieve Career Success and is sponsored by the Association of Chinese Americans and the Detroit Chapter of OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates.

As an intellectual property attorney, Almeda advises clients on biomedical products involving a variety of technologies, including filters, occlusion devices, stents, catheters, wire guides, retrieval devices and delivery systems and is chair of the nanotechnology practice group. He also counsels clients on patent infringement investigations, patent invalidity opinions, patent landscape investigations, and licensing agreements.

Long active in the Asian American community, Almeda was a member of the State Advisory Committee of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and previously served as chair. He has held a number of elected and appointed offices, including Secretary for the Michigan Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission, Secretary for the Governor’s Advisory Council on Asian Pacific American Affairs, President of the Michigan Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Board of Directors for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and Board of Directors for the Washtenaw County Bar Association.
