Canton Woman Among Belleville Lake Drowning Victims at Van Buren Park

Police have named Heather Nicole Hill, 20, from Canton and Eric Wayne Rose, 28, of Wayne as drowning victims over the weekend in Belleville Lake at Van Buren Park, according to AnnArbor.com.
The pair drowned Saturday after becoming disoriented in the dark, Van Buren Police told AnnArbor.com.
According to the report, Van Buren Township's dispatch center received an emergency call from someone who said he thought his two friendsm ight have drowned in Belleville Lake. He told the dispatcher the three of them had walked out on a sandbar and got into a boat anchored on the sandbar, AnnArbor.com reported.

At 9:40 p.m., the report said, the three left the boat and began to walk back to the park. Because of a storm earlier in the day, the report said, the park had lost some power and was dark.
The caller became separated from his friends, the report said, and dialed 911 from a nearby party store.

Search efforts began that night, but were called off at 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning because of thunderstorms, the report said. Later Sunday morning, dive teams recovered both bodies within 30 feet of one another in 8 feet of water about 850 feet from the beach, the report said.
