Comcast Awards $114,000 in Scholarships to 108 Michigan High School Seniors
Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program Recognizes Students' Achievements Both in and Out of the Classroom
Comcast today announced that it has awarded $114,000 in scholarships to 108 Michigan students as part of its annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. The program, funded by the Comcast Foundation, is a one-time, $1,000 scholarship awarded to the best and brightest high school seniors for their exceptional community service, academic performance and leadership skills. Since 2001, more than $25 million has been awarded to nearly 25,000 high school seniors across the country as part of the company’s Leaders and Achievers Program.
“These scholarship winners represent the best of tomorrow’s leaders,” said Tim Collins, senior vice president of Comcast in Michigan. “Their community passion and commitment to excellence – both in and out of the classroom – is inspiring. We are honored to recognize their achievements and to support them as they continue their educational journeys.”
Comcast recognized the students at a special event held at the Michigan State Capitol building yesterday during which they each received $1,000 scholarships for the 2016-17 school year. Jamilla Essak, a resident of Sterling Heights and student at Regina High School, was selected to receive an additional $6,000 Comcast Founders Scholarship - instituted in honor of Ralph J. Roberts, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Comcast Corporation.
