Entry into Canada after a DUI Conviction

Entry into Canada after a drinking and driving conviction can be difficult. Learn more about DUI and the law here.

If you are charged with drinking and driving and are ultimately convicted you will have a very hard time crossing the Canadian boarder regardless if it is for work or for pleasure.

Crossing the Canadian Boarder after a DUI Conviction

It is possible to apply for a temporary residency permit to cross the Canadian boarder after a drinking and driving conviction. You must have a very good reason to cross the boarder, Canadian bowling with your friends will not cut it, but a funeral or medical treatment probably would. There is a $200 filing fee and in some instances the fee may be waived.

If you are still on probation for your drinking and driving conviction it is less likely that you will be granted a temporary residency permit, however, it may still be possible if you have a VERY compelling reason. Unfortunately, your job probably will not be a good enough excuse to get a permit. A funeral, an important doctors appointment with a letter, or if you are a pro sports player you will likely be allowed to enter the country.
