ANN ARBOR, MI — Michigan Wolverines head basketball coach Dusty May is leaving the team to coach the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA, according to an ESPN report.
The announcement comes just months after May led the Wolverines to their second NCAA national championship with a 69-63 win over the Connecticut Huskies.
May, 49, led the Wolverines to a 64-13 record over two seasons in Ann Arbor.

Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel said the team and May had agreed to a new contract, but the deal was never signed.
The team is "working toward" hiring assistant Mike Boynton to be the next Wolverines head coach, according to reports.

It was unclear who will take over the Wolverines head coaching position.
The Mavericks recently fired former NBA All-Star Jason Kidd after five seasons. They finished the season 26-56 and hold the No. 9 pick in Tuesday's NBA Draft. Their roster also contains last year's top pick forward Cooper Flagg.
