“I am thankful for laughter, except when milk comes out of my nose.” -- Woody Allen.
Most of the time, when you head to the theater for comedy, it is at the hands of playwrights like Neil Simon, Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward, Christopher Durang, and that Shakespeare dude. But once in a while, you get the opportunity to experience comedy in its rawest, purest, unscripted form: Improv. And that is what Some Kind of Players will be bringing to the table on Saturday, September 8, at 8:00 PM, at Barefoot Productions in Plymouth.

Of course, all improv needs a structure of some kind. A template. And few better templates have arisen in recent years than the popular TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, which brought short-form improv to millions of homes each week. What started as a British radio show soon became TV show that lasted for 10 seasons before being imported to the U.S., where it ran for 8 seasons, hosted by Drew Carey.
That’s a nearly-20 year tradition of improv. One that Some Kind of Players gleefully mines.

“The performance is heavily inspired by Whose Line is it Anyway?,” says performer Nathan Corliss. “I grew up on Whose Line? and always loved it. After taking an improvisation class at EMU, I knew that I could do this stuff myself.”
The performers solicit audience involvement prior to and during the show. Suggestions from the audience will be the basis for the improv games that Some Kind of Players have lined up, including familiar Whose Line? games such as “Questions Only,” “The Dating Game,” and “Change.”
The performers, in addition to Corliss and his roommate -- who is simply (and mysteriously) known only as Squinky -- include Robyn Taylor and Jamie Morgan. Taylor studied improvisation with Second City in Chicago in her adolescence. Morgan is making her stage debut. The entire team is eager to engage audiences in their first ever performance as a unit.
