
Charming readers since it was first published in 1823, The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore is a part of many family traditions and has been illustrated in countless variations. Becky Hurst, retired elementary school teacher has collected over 125 versions of this beloved poem over the last 25 years. She shares a portion of her special collection with the Plymouth District Library this holiday season. Through January 3, Library users can enjoy displays on both the lower and main level of the Library. Becky’s favorite is the one illustrated by Jan Brett, with detailed drawings that utilize the entire page throughout the book. The oldest book in her collection was published in 1911. The collection also includes The Soldiers’ Night Before Christmas, The Night Before Christmas in Michigan, An Irish Night Before Christmas and many more. The books vary greatly, illustrated by such notable artists as Jessie Wilcox Smith, Tomie DePaola, Donald Mills, Howard Finster and Mary Engelbreit.
The Library also has many versions available for checkout in the youth area.
