In honor of Flag Day, the Plymouth VFW Post 6695 will be hosting a Flag Retirement Ceremony. Our veterans will be assisted by Boy Scout Troop 1539 in this ceremony, to be held at the VFW Post, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 14th.
Part of the protocol for the proper retirement of a United States Flag involves cutting the individual stripes apart, and with dignity putting them into a fire. Once they are burned completely, the canton (stars) goes into the fire to be burned completely.
This ceremony will be 30 minutes in duration, and there will be free hot dogs, chips, and pop after the ceremony. The public is invited to attend, and witness the ceremony, and if you have a flag that is in need of retirement, you are invited to bring it, and the VFW will see that it gets a proper retirement. There will be no replacement flags distributed at this ceremony.
