Former Councilman Charged In Fatal Crash

On Dec. 12, 2017, a wrong-way crash killed two people. One former local leader is now facing charges.

CANTON, MI — A 59-year-old former councilman has been charged in connection to the Dec. 12, 2017 fatal wrong-way crash in Canton Township. Michael Gerard Stack, of Wolverine Lake, was allegedly driving the wrong way on northbound I-275 near Cherry Hill Road when he reportedly lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into oncoming traffic, killing two Wayne residents who were engaged to be married: 32-year-old Shannon McIntyre and 33-year-old Nicholas Pare.

Stack was a councilman in Wolverine Lake, He resigned from office on Jan. 4. An investigation revealed a bottle of alcohol in his vehicle, authorities said. He is now being charged with two counts of reckless driving causing death and one count of open intoxicant in his vehicle. He was arraigned at the 35th District Court and given a personal bond. He will return to court April 27.
