Hero Dog Sadie Gets Special Commendation

The dog lunged, growled, bared her teeth and refused to back down to unknown home invader, who was punching the determined protector.

Sadie, a golden retriever that held a would-be burglar at bay earlier this month in Wyandotte, is getting some special treats from the animal welfare group PETA.

PETA – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals – heard about Sarah Powers’ and Joe Peters’ hero dog, and decided to recognize the 11-year-old golden retriever, Sadie, with a special commendation and basket of treats.

PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien said the organization seeks out dogs who go to heroic lengths to protect their human friends

“PETA hopes her story will encourage all guardians to remember that dogs are loyal family members and to treat their canine companions well by taking them on walks, playing with them, and showering them with affection,” O’Brien said.
