In Photos: Plymouth Whalers Prepare for Upcoming Season
Whalers have open scrimmage during training camp.
The Plymouth Whalers held an open scrimmage Thursday morning at Compuware Arena in preparation for their upcoming season. Preseason games start Sept. 3 and the regular season starts Sept. 21.
Garrett Meurs, Rickard Rakell and Tom Wilson all had two goals during the scrimmage. Meurs also tacked on two assists.
"We have higher expectations than last year," said video coach Scott MacDonald.

The Whalers lost three prominent players this season. Tyler Brown, James Livingston and Robbie Czarnik all signed on to NHL teams.
"They were all keys guys (that) played a lot of minutes," said MacDonald. "We got to have other guys step in those roles and play up to their level."
