ANN ARBOR, MI — University of Michigan Police said they finished their investigation into the Michigan-Michigan State football brawl and turned over their findings to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Police began investigating the incident after videos showed numerous Michigan State Spartan players pummeling Michigan's defensive backs Gemon Green and Ja’den McBurrows as both teams made their way to the locker rooms following a Spartan 29-7 loss to the Wolverines in the Big House.

"We understand and appreciate your interest in this unfortunate and unusual incident," Overton wrote in the statement. "Consistent with our commitment to transparency and due process, we will not share further information pending the prosecutor’s office review."

An attorney representing Green said the student-athlete was hit with a helmet and suffered a concussion in the brawl.

"When college football players brutally attack a member of the opposing team with their helmets, resulting in the player suffering a concussion and other injuries, an apology won’t suffice," attorney Tom Mars said in a statement.

Another lawyer representing one of the Michigan State Players told the Detroit Free Press a Wolverine started the fight in the tunnel as both teams were leaving the field.

"We have learned that the UM player started the altercation. Eyewitnesses have described it as charging with his helmet and throwing a punch,"attorney David Diamond said in a statement to the Free Press.

It's unclear if any of the players involved in the brawl will face charges, but Wolverines Head Coach Jim Harbaugh said he expects four Michigan State Football players to face criminal charges.

So far, the Michigan State Spartans have suspended eight players: linebacker/defensive end Jacoby Windmon, defensive back Angelo Grose, defensive end Zion Young, defensive end Itayvion “Tank” Brown, defensive end Brandon Wright, defensive back Khary Crump, defensive back Justin White and defensive back Malcom Jones.

The University of Michigan said it will increase security to better monitor crowd and participant interactions in and around the tunnel area at Michigan Stadium. Both teams use the same tunnel to get to their respective locker rooms.
