Minimum Wage Workers Get a Pay Boost Jan. 1
Workers get another step increase under law approved in 2014, making Michigan's minimum wage 14th highest in country.
LANSING, MI – Minimum wage workers in Michigan will earn 35 cents more an hour beginning New Year’s Day.
The increase, which boosts the minimum wage to $8.50 from $8.15 an hour, means full-time workers will earn another $14 a week and $728 a year.
A 2014 law gradually boosts the minimum wage to $9.25 an hour in 2018. In 2017, the minimum wage goes up to $8.90 an hour. The increase that takes effect Jan. 1 is the second in 16 months.

Beginning in 2019, the minimum wage will rise with the rate of inflation, not to exceed 3.5 percent
Fourteen states are increasing workers’ minimum wage beginning Jan. 1, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. The pay boost in Michigan makes the minimum wage the 14th highest among 45 states with a minimum wage.
