Plymouth Twp. Appeases DOJ, Transfers Money Back to Drug Forfeiture Pot
Outgoing city officials Edwards and Conzelman agree to transfer during their last official meeting.

(Posted Nov. 21, 2016) PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — The Plymouth Township Board of Trustees, locked in a dispute for several years with the U.S. Department of Justice over the management of drug forfeiture funds, has agreed to transfer $83,397 from the general fund back to the drug forfeiture fund, hoping that will end the dispute, The Plymouth Observer reports.
A September 2015 audit found the then-Treasurer Ron Edwards' office had oversight of the drug forfeiture fund that should have been managed by Police Chief Tom Tiderington. The Justice Department said some forfeiture money was used to pay expenses not permitted by the fund, including civilian salaries.
Payment of the money is expected to resolve the conflict.
