Ohio State Vs Michigan: Governors Place Sweet Bets On Outcome

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer offered Michigan-made sweets to her Ohio rival. We're guessing the Wolverines will be the only ones tasting victory.

ANN ARBOR, MI — The governors of Ohio and Michigan placed a friendly wager on the outcome of Saturday's historic game.

College football's most historic rivalry, The Ohio State University versus the University of Michigan, will be rekindled on Saturday. To celebrate, Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan each put a little skin on the outcome.

If the Buckeyes lose, Whitmer will get her hands on a plateful of Ohio-made sweets, including cream puffs from Schmidt's in Columbus, black raspberry ice cream from Graeter's in Cincinnati, chocolate-covered pretzels from Malley's in Cleveland and buckeye candies from Marsha's Homemade Buckeyes in Perrsyburg.

"I am proud to engage in this friendly bet, highlighting some of Fran and my favorite treats from across the Buckeye State that we know many Ohioans will be enjoying as they cheer the Buckeyes. O-H!" DeWine said in a statement.

Worth noting here, Ohio State hasn't lost The Game since 2011. So Whitmer probably shouldn't get too excited about all those candies and ice creams. Last year's game was canceled due to COVID-19, but the last time the two schools met, Ohio State won 56-27. Ouch.

Here's what DeWine stands to win when the Buckeyes again claim victory: Michigan-made cherry sweet and treats from Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor.

"This football game is a time-honored tradition between our two states that pits the best we have to offer against each other for four quarters," Whitmer said. "That's why I'm joining Governor DeWine to bet some of the best Michigan-made sweet and treats that our state has to offer from Cherry Republic. With everything on the line for a trip to the Big Ten Championship game, I can't wait to cheer on the Wolverines. Go Blue!"

Saturday's historic game will kick-off at noon in Ann Arbor. Both teams are 10-1 heading into the contest. Ohio State is ranked No. 2 in the nation, while Michigan is ranked No. 6.
