Patience of Plymouth Tested as Train Co. Works Toward Solution

CSX installed new equipment to limit train disruption in the area.

Plymouth, MI β€” A grieving funeral party between 80 and 100 people were on their way to Plymouth restaurant Station 885 to remember their loved one when, when a CSX Transportation train blocked their route.

They waited in their vehicles instead, making a visual statement about a problem that has frustrated business owners and others just trying to get around over the past several weeks.

Marta Clare, a bookkeeper at Plymouth’s Station 885, said customers didn’t have issues getting to the restaurant until about two months ago.

β€œIt is eating into our revenue,” Clare told Patch.

Now, the CSX trains stall and block customers several times a week, sometimes for as long as an hour and 40 min at a time, she said.

Gail Lobin, a representative from CSX Corporate Communications, said the company acknowledges the issues which have resulted in an increase of blocked crossings in the Plymouth area and are in communication with local officials and businesses.

β€œWe have installed some equipment which has helped mitigate the impact of these operations on the community, including a reduction in idling times, and senior members of the CSX operations team continue to review the situation to identify potential improvements,” Lobin told Patch.

β€œCSX is committed to working toward limiting the impact of our operations in the area. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.”

Lobin said residents with concerns about the trains should call CSX at (877) 835-5297 or visit the CSX website.
