Plymouth Insurance Agent Faces Trial Over Embezzlement Charges
A Plymouth insurance agent will stand trial on felony embezzlement charges, according to the Michigan Attorney General's Office.
PLYMOUTH, MI — A Plymouth insurance agent will stand trial on felony embezzlement charges, according to the Michigan Attorney General's Office.
Nancy Caviston, 76, of Superior Charter Township in Washtenaw County, was charged with two felony counts of embezzlement by an agent, $1,000-$20,000 and two misdemeanor counts of wage and fringe benefit violations.
Her trial is scheduled to begin on July 12 in Wayne County's 3rd Circuit Court. She faces five years in prison on each of the felony counts, and up to 90 days on the misdemeanor charges.

Caviston, owner and operator of The Caviston Agency, Inc., a Plymouth insurance agency, took money from payroll deductions that were meant for contributions to an IRA account for two long-term employees and used the money toward her personal and business expenses, according to the attorney general's office.
The investigation into Caviston was conducted by the federal Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration.

"Payroll and benefit fraud often lurk undetected for years," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. "Unsuspecting and hardworking employees should be able to trust their employers without worry of being victimized by them."
Caviston has worked in the insurance industry since 1967, and opened Caviston Agency as co-founder of in 1981, according to the company's website.
