Plymouth Township Challengers Want State Election Oversight

Kurt Heise and Jerry Vorva accuse incumbent township clerk Nancy Conzelman of manipulating election process to hers and others' advantage.

Kurt Heise, Jerry Vorva claim township clerk “manipulated the election process to ensure … advantage.”

Plymouth, MI — Two Republican challengers for top Plymouth Township offices have asked state elections officials to oversee or perhaps even conduct next month’s primary.

Current state Rep. Kurt Heise, who is challenging Supervisor Shannon Price for the top township position, and Jerry Vorva, who is challenging Nancy Conzelman in the clerk’s race, asked for the oversight “for the sake of free and fair elections,” The Plymouth Observer reports.

In a letter to Secretary of State Ruth Johnson, Heise and Vorva said Conzelman “has demonstrated that she is incapable of fairly and impartially administering an election.”

They also accused Conzelman of providing official clerk services to some candidates and not others, and said that by doing so, she “manipulated the election process to ensure that her preferred candidate(s) obtained an unfair advantage.”

Johnson’s office is reviewing the request. The Observer said Conzelman did not return phone calls requesting comment.
