Plymouth Won't Let Detroit Take Back Land Without a Fight

The township will appeal a judge's decision that returned 190 acres of former prison land to Detroit.

Plymouth Township will try to reclaim 190 acres of former prison land that was recently returned to the City of Detroit thanks to a judge’s ruling.

The Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to appeal a Wayne County Circuit Judge’s ruling that Detroit still owned the land west of Johnson Creek that the township thought it had rightfully purchased from the county in 2011, according to a HometownLife report. The vote was unanimous, the report added.

The land was part of a proposal to develop an 800-acre, tech-based business park between Plymouth and Northville townships.
