Plymouth Twp. Weighs Options After Judge Gives Land Back to Detroit

The 190 acres of former prison property was to be a part of a tech business park between Plymouth and Northville townships.

A judge’s ruling last week over a disputed piece of former prison land has Plymouth Township officials re-evaluating its plans.

A Wayne County Circuit Court judge ruled Feb. 27 that the City of Detroit still owned 190 acres of land west of Johnson Creek that the township thought it had rightfully purchased from the county in 2011, according to a HometownLife report.

The property was set to be part of the Michigan International Technology Center, an 800-acre, tech-based business park between Plymouth and Northville townships, the report stated. Officials still plan to move forward with that development, the report added.

Plymouth Township Supervisor Richard Reaume told Hometown Life he would be meeting with the Board of Trustees to see if the township will appeal the judge’s ruling, the report stated.
