Police Shoot Motorist Who Pointed Gun in Traffic Stop
Man stopped for suspected drunken driving allegedly pointed a gun out the window at police officers early Sunday morning.

LIVONIA, MI – Police shot a 25-year-old Livonia man who pointed a long gun at them early Sunday morning during a traffic stop, authorities said.
The driver, who hasn’t been identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition at an area hospital, according to a news release from Livonia police.
Police got a call about a possible drunken driver about 2 a.m. on Lyndon, east of Farmington Road. The caller reported a near miss with the Ford Explorer, police said, and the driver was swerving in and out of lanes of traffic.

Police located the vehicle in the area of I-96 and Farmington and followed if for some time and observed erratic driving that suggested the driver was intoxicated, police said.
A second Livonia officer arrived for backup, and as officers approached, the driver allegedly pointed the long gun out the window.

Officers responded by firing their weapons, which caused the driver to pull the gun back inside the vehicle, police said.
Officers sought cover, and after several verbal commands to get out of the vehicle without the gun the driver complied, according to the release and was taken into custody.
The investigation is continuing.
