Pour Me Another: Board of Trustees Cuts Plymouth Water Rate

The township's new pumping station enabled the city to reduce costs.

Plymouth, MI — Plymouth residents and business owners can look forward to a smaller water bill starting next month.

The Plymouth Observer reports the township Board of Trustees approved a new rate plan on Tuesday that cuts the retail price by 50 cents for every thousand gallons of water used.

The township’s new combined rate of water and sewer will be $9.45 per thousand gallons.

Treasurer Ron Edwards said efficiencies added to the township’s water system in recent years, including a new $750,000 pumping station, enabled the city to absorb a rate increase from the Great Lakes Water Authority of about 5.4 percent.

“We made that investment a few years ago,” Edwards said. “It paid off instantly and we’ve been reaping the benefits ever since.” He added that without the new pumping station, “I would be paying $2 million more.”
