State Senate Approves $38.7B Operating Budget

The budget now goes on to the House, which will send the Senate its $15.8B educational budget.

The State Senate gave the OK on Wednesday to a $38.7 billion operating budget, according to a Detroit News report.

Approval of the 2016 fiscal year budget, which does not include educational spending, passed by a 22-16 vote, the report stated. The Senate’s 11 Democrats and five Republicans voted against the plan, the report added.

The budget earmarks $400 million to fix roads around the Michigan, reduced film production subsidies to $25 million and cut spending on the Michigan Economic Development agency to $198.5 million, the report stated.
