Students of Central City Dance Center Sweep the Competition in Fowlerville, MI

Canton Dance Students Shine at Encore

Over 70 aspiring young students from Central City Dance Center of Canton, MI sparkled at the Encore DCS Dance Competition April 9th & 10th, 2016. The dance competition was held at in Fowlerville, MI. Central City Dance students, ranging in ages from 6-19, competed against 10 other mid-west dance studios from Michigan and Indiana.

Many different styles of dance were performed; Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Modern to name a few. The competition was divided into Solo, Duo/Trio, Small Group, Large Group and Line & Production categories.

Students from Central City Dance Center won the following awards: 7 Diamond Awards, 49 Platinum Awards, 11 High Gold Awards and over 36 Overall Awards in a particular category.

“Students began conditioning in September, but didn’t begin working on the competition choreography until January. It took about 12 weeks to create the choreography and get it ready for competition,” explains Erin Kearney, one of the studio’s dance instructors.

Special recognition awards were given to students of Central City Dance Center for standing-out among the competition.

The “Best Emotional Execution Award” was awarded to the Central City Dance Teen Competitive Group. The “High Energy Award” was awarded to Central City’s Adult Competitive Tap Team for their presentation of “Proud Mary”, and the “Most Entertaining Award” was awarded to the Studio’s Elite Competitive team, which is comprised of the studio’s top dancers.

“The competition was very tough. We are proud of the accomplishments of all of our students and are proud to represent Canton Township!” explains Tim Smola, Studio Owner and Director.

Canton residents Giovanni Succurro (age 10) and Plymouth Senior, Carissa Heestand (age 18), as well as Brownstown resident, Parker Brudzinski (age 13), all received special scholarships to perform at the National Competition.

Central City Dance students will be attending the National competition, held in Charlotte, SC in July. “After reflecting on such a successful dance 2016 season, our students are really looking forward to attending Nationals,” said Tamara Smola, Owner & Director of Central City Dance.

Central City’s Summer Dance Jam begins, July 12th and runs through August 18th. The studio is currently accepting students into its 6 week Summer Dance Jam and 3 day dance camps.
