WESTLAND, MI — A 14-year-old student was arrested Monday after police said the teen made an online threat against John Glenn High School in Westland.
The student has only been identified as an Inkster resident and was a ninth-grader at the high school, police said. The teen was placed in the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Center while criminal charges were pending.
The threat forced the high school to close down Monday and shift to online learning Tuesday, police said. The high school was expected to resume in-person classes Wednesday.

"In nearly every situation, parents are responding the same way saying that they could never imagine their child making a threat like this," Police Chief Jeff Jedrusik said. "This is yet another example of how important it is for parents to be aware of their children’s social media activity and the serious ramifications that will result."
The online threat comes as many Metro Detroit communities have seen an uptick in online threats against schools. Oakland County officials have investigated four threats made against South Lyon high schools over the past month.
