Tuesday's Election Turnout in Plymouth Township Up From Past Primaries

Township saw 33 percent of registered voters cast ballots for Tuesday primary.

More Plymouth Township voters headed to polls Tuesday or submitted absentee ballots than in the past two primary elections, according to Plymouth Township Deputy Clerk Eric Bacyinski.

According to unofficial figures released Tuesday night, 7,373 voters cast ballots for this year's Republican and Democratic primaries, accounting for 33.35 percent of the township's total registered voters.

According to Bacyinski, this figure was up from August primaries in 2010 and 2008.

In 2010, Bacyinski said, 6,762 voters turned out for the primary vote.

In 2008, a township election year, 6,262 voters cast ther primary ballots, he said.

This year, the turnout was crucial in deciding at least one local race.

Plymouth Township Clerk Joe Bridgman by just 8 votes, according to unofficial numbers. Bridgman told the Plymouth Observer he might consider requesting a recount in the coming days.
