CANTON, MI — The City of Canton will honor U.S. Olympian and Canton native Allison Schmitt at a special presentation on Friday.

The ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. during Canton’s free Picnic in the Park community event at the Heritage Park Amphitheater.

Schmitt is a four time U.S. Olympian who has won a total of ten medals in swimming, including four gold, three silver and three bronze. She is only the third American woman to medal at four Olympics, which include Beijing in 2008, London in 2012, Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020.

Because of the recent heavy rains, the city encouraged people to bring lawn chairs for seating and to prepare for wet ground conditions.

In addition to the ceremony, the Picnic in the Park event will also feature two stages of live entertainment, tasty dinner options from food trucks and restaurants, as well as a beer and wine garden.

The entire event will culminate at dusk with a fireworks show.
