The Rotary Club of Ann Arbor Service Above Self Scholarship is available to any person – of any age – who has graduated from an Ann Arbor high school [either public or private] and wishes to attend [or currently attends] Washtenaw Community College [WCC].
The scholarship covers fall and winter semesters and pays up to $1,250 in tuition. It can be renewed for a second year if the student holds a 3.0 grade point average, pursues classes in his/her program and successfully completes 2/3 of the attempted classes.
Students who are not receiving other financial aid get first consideration for the scholarship. Veterans also receive special consideration.
HOW:
To apply for the scholarship, visit http://www.wccnet.edu/services/financial-aid/scholarships/rotary-club-scholarship/
Requirements: Those interested in applying need to submit their most current transcript – either from high school or WCC (if a current student). A 250 word typed essay must be completed and included with the scholarship submission that answers the question: What have you done in school and/or the community to serve others?
WHEN:
The application deadline is June 10.
WHY:
“The 2014-15 academic year will be the third year that WCC has been the recipient of the Service Above Self Scholarship from the Rotary Club of Ann Arbor, said Lori Trapp, WCC director of financial aid. The scholarship gives recipients the opportunity to pursue their dreams and concentrate on their education, knowing that a portion of their tuition has been covered.”
"The Rotary Club of Ann Arbor Service Above Self Scholarship is designed to benefit high-achieving graduates of Ann Arbor high schools who have demonstrated a willingness to give back to the community. Our hope is that by supporting these students – we will enable them to continue their involvement in our local community,” said Dave McDowell, Rotary Club of Ann Arbor member and co-chair of the Service Above Self scholarship committee.”
