Westland Teen Hurt After SUV Hits Her As She Walked To School: Police
The 15-year-old girl was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia with serious injuries, police said.

WESTLAND, MI — A Westland high school student was seriously injured Thursday morning in a hit-and-run accident while walking to school, police said.
The 15-year-old girl was struck by a dark-colored SUV that ran a red light at the intersection of Newburgh and Marquette roads around 6:45 a.m. while walking to John Glenn High School, police said.
The teen girl was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia with serious injuries, while the driver continued southbound on Newburgh Road, police said.

Police said Thursday afternoon they arrested the suspected driver and impounded the suspected vehicle.
No further details were released as the investigation is still ongoing and its findings will be turned over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Westland School District said that its crisis response team will be at the school if other students need support.
