PONTIAC, MI — One person was shot and injured during a youth football game Sunday in Pontiac, according to officials.
Pontiac Mayor Mike McGuinness said the shooting happened at Wisner Stadium and stemmed from a fight between adults.
The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting, McGuinness said, adding that no children were hurt and the remaining games were canceled for the day.
"The young athletes and their families didn't do anything to deserve this new traumatic memory and to miss out on their athletic opportunities," McGuinness said. "If you want our community to do better and be better, you're going to have to check your ego, pride, anger, and guns at the door."
Police have not yet released any other specific details.
