• Oakland University to host freedom of speech forum (theoaklandpress.com) — Oakland University is bringing a two-day free speech forum to our area, with Sept. 30 panel discussions at the Royal Park Hotel in downtown Rochester and an evening lecture at Varner Hall. Nationally known civil liberties experts Greg Lukianoff and Nadine Strossen will explore campus political violence, civil discourse, and First Amendment issues, and residents can register online to attend.
   

• Oakland County Man Wins $1M On Scratch-Off Ticket (patch.com) — A 62-year-old Oakland County resident won $1 million from a Ruby 7s scratch-off bought at the Speedway on South Rochester Road in Rochester. He chose a lump-sum payout of about $693,000 and plans to start college funds for his kids, buy a house, and enjoy some of the remaining winnings.
