Awesome Amphibians
Learn about the lifestyles of our native frogs and toads from a local expert, naturalist Gordon Loni

This is the time of year when nature awakens and the sounds of spring abound. Nature lovers listen not only for the sounds of bird songs, but also for the emergence of spring peepers, those tiny frogs with big voices. Early spring finds adult amphibians emerging from their winter hibernation and actively beginning to seek mates. Residents lucky enough to live close to a wetland or vernal pond will hear these spring courtship calls loud and clear, a true herald of spring.
The Rochester Garden Club is offering a timely program geared to teach more about the frogs and toads around us. The former director of the Sterling Heights Nature Center, Gordon Loni, will inform and delight us with Frogs and Toads of Michigan, his audio and visual presentation derived from his own field studies. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1977, Mr. Loni began his career working for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks as a seasonal naturalist. After three years with the Metroparks, he became the director of the Sterling Heights Nature Center where he served for the next 28 years. Mr. Loni’s expansive knowledge and entertaining style will entertain and educate.
This presentation will be at the Rochester Community House on April 14 at 11:15 am. It is open to the public, but registration is required and the cost is $5.00. Call Pat at (586) 336-0897 or contact us at RochesterGardenClub.org.
