Detroit Symphony Prince Tribute Tickets Go On Sale Friday
"Purple Rain," "Little Red Corvette," "Raspberry Beret" and "When Doves Cry" specially arranged for "The Music of Prince."

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to iconic entertainer Prince at a special concert at the Meadow Brook Amphitheatre in Rochester Hills at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25. Tickets for “The Music of Prince” go on sale Friday, April 21.
The DSO, vocalist Marshall Charloff and a full band led by Windborne Music guest conductor Brent Havens will perform adaptations of the artist’s top hits, including “Purple Rain,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Raspberry Beret” and “When Doves Cry.” Havens arranged the hits for the orchestra.
Tickets at $75, $55, $35 and $25 in the pavilion, $20 on the lawn and four-packs at $60 on the lawn go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at dso.org, Palacenet.com, The Palace Ticket Store and all Ticketmaster locations. Charloff, front man for a five-piece tribute band entitled The Purple Xperience, imaginatively styles the magic of Prince’s talent in an uncannily unmatched fashion with his appearance, vocal imitation, and multi-instrumental capacity on guitar, piano, bass and drums. Charloff and Windborne Music’s exceptional musicians combine with a full orchestra to present the Music of Prince performed as you've never heard it before. Berklee-trained arranger/conductor Havens has written music for orchestras, feature films and television. His TV work includes movies for ABC, CBS and ABC Family networks, sports programs for ESPN, commercials and cartoons. He conducted the Doobie Brothers and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for Harley Davidson’s 100th Anniversary Birthday Bash, attended by more than 150,000 fans.
In addition to many concerts with the Houston Symphony, Havens has worked with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; the Minnesota Orchestra; the Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas and Fort Worth Symphony Orchestras; the San Diego Symphony; the Buffalo Philharmonic and countless others. He has conducted the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra for the Music of Michael Jackson and the Music of Led Zeppelin.
Havens recently completed the score for the film Quo Vadis, a Premier Pictures remake of the 1951 gladiator film. In 2013, he worked with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the NFL's Baltimore Ravens to arrange and produce classical and rock music for the Thanksgiving Day halftime show for the game between the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Brent Havens is arranger/guest conductor for 13 symphonic rock programs — Music of Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Queen, Michael Jackson, The Who, Whitney Houston, The Rolling Stones, U2 and, most recently, two new programs for 2016 with both Elton John and David Bowie. He premiered an orchestral show for Lou Gramm: The Voice Of Foreigner with Gramm singing out front.
