
Come out and join OUSC for the 2012 Oakland Symposium: Empowering Women in the Global Community!
The 2012 Oakland Symposium: Empowering Women in the Global Community is a day-long academic conference that is gathering world renowned speakers, locally significant activists, and scholars from Michigan's universities to highlight the discrimination women face throughout the world and to discuss the solutions to promote equality and empower women.

Panelists Include Sheryl Wudunn, business executive and pulitzer prize winning author of "Half the Sky;" Bridgette Carr, J.D., Director of the University of Michigan Law School Human Trafficking Clinic; Monica Emerson, Principal of Monica E. Emerson LLC and Oakland University Board of Trustee; Henry Baskin, J.D., President of the Baskin Law Firm and Oakland University Board of Trustees Chair; Katherine Strickfaden, J.D., 3rd Circuit Court; Anne Doyle, author and politician; Beth Morrison, CEO of Haven; Deirdre Greene Groves, Executive Director of the Collaborative Group (Challenge Detroit); and many more scholars and community leaders.
The day will consist of many events that have to do with empowering women in the Global Community. There will be a keynote speaker in the morning, panels, lunch, entertainment, dinner as well as a fashion show. Everything will be open besides the dinner is VIP only.
