The Rochester Historical Commission invites the public to join us on Sunday, March 18 from 2:00 - 3:30 PM to commemorate the founding of Rochester. The James Graham family arrived in the area on March 17, 1817 and founded the first permanent settlement in Oakland County.
Local writer and historian Maureen Thalmann will present a 45-minute Power Point program "The Millerites and a Private Second Coming". The Millerite movement was founded in upstate New York in the early 1840s and soon reached nationwide. When an Avon Township farmer joined the movement a scandal that shook the quiet community developed.
The event is free and no registration is required. Refreshments will be available and children are welcome. Please join us to celebrate the founding of our community. For more information call 248-652-9242.
