Investigations Concluded in 2 'Stranger Danger' Reports

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office took reports of a photographer cruising a neighborhood and motorist thought to be luring boy.

Two recent reports of “stranger danger” threats to children’s safety resulted from misunderstandings and investigations have been closed, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said.

A Pontiac woman had reported to police on May 3 that someone was taking photographs in her neighborhood, and on May 12, a 14-year-old Orion Township boy reported a man in a black Lexus claimed to need help and tried to lure him to his vehicle.

In the Pontiac incident, the story of the photographer circulated via social media and flyers warning of stranger danger. As it turns out, the person behind the camera was a private investigator, The Oakland Press reports.

In the second incident, the boy did the right thing by asking help, but was never in danger, Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe told the newspaper.

The man in the Lexus was a contracted painter from Shelby Township who was working in the area. The man was talking on his cell phone, and the boy may have heard him say to a client, “You need to come here,” McCabe said.
